Real estate twilight: Shocking decline in building permits for housing in Germany
In view of the latest figures from the Federal Statistical Office on building permits, the situation on the housing market is coming to a head. Housing is also a question of social cohesion.
According to the Federal Statistical Office, the number of approved apartments in 2023 fell by 94,100 compared to the previous year to 260,100 apartments - the lowest level since 2012.
A temporary waiver of land transfer tax and municipal levies on housing construction would also be steps that would bring "fundamental change". According to the ZIA, there will be a shortfall of 720,000 apartments by 2025 and as many as 830,000 by 2027.
